I swear.
"In a word, I have tried to be objective. What I mean by objectivity is not the objectivity of a machine, but of a sensible human being with the mystery of personal selection at the heart of it."
-Berenice (of course).
I like the mystery of personal selection part. and yet, personal selection is the bane of my existence right now.
I've been shooting a lot of the boys on my block, particularly Damien. Damien is seventeen and he lives directly across the street from me in Crown Heights with his mother, Gloria. Gloria has lived in Brooklyn her entire life with her five children, three of which she adopted when they were in their early teens. Now only Damien and his little sister, 'Juju' remain. (I have yet to scan those. Someone please rain a Nikon 9000 or an Imacon gently onto my desk. K.Thx.)
Suffice to say I love them and they are in every sense, celestial. Glorida sent me a plate of red snapper over a few hours after we took pictures. Amazing things come out of her mouth in the most unexpected of ways.
I can hear buses out the window. I shall now retire.
